A Free Cerebral Palsy Awareness Resource for Schools

Cerebral Palsy Awareness Resource for Schools

Talking about disability in school shouldn’t feel awkward, complicated, or risky.

But for many teachers, it does.

You want to get it right.
You don’t want to say the wrong thing.
You don’t want to oversimplify — or overcomplicate.

That’s exactly why I’ve created a free, Cerebral Palsy awareness resource for schools.

Why I Created It

I have Cerebral Palsy. I’ve had it since birth. Growing up, the biggest barriers I’ve faced weren’t physical – they were attitudes and assumptions.

Low expectations.
Misunderstandings.
Awkward silences.

When children are given honest, age appropriate explanations about disability, something powerful happens: curiosity replaces discomfort and inclusion becomes effortless.

Schools play a huge part in shaping that understanding.

This resource is designed to support you in doing that confidently.

What’s Included

This free resource includes:

  • A short, age appropriate video explaining Cerebral Palsy
  • Suggested discussion prompts for KS1, KS2 and KS3
  • A teacher friendly guide to Cerebral Palsy
  • A page sharing my lived experience
  • A guide to language around disability

It’s designed to be practical and usable – whether in assemblies, PSHE, tutor time or as part as disability awareness work throughout the year. No specialist knowledge required.

Why Lived Experience Matters

There’s lots of medical explanations of Cerebral Palsy available online. But what’s often missing is lived experience.

Disability is part of everyday life. When pupils hear directly from disabled adults, it normalises difference and challenges the idea that disability is something unusual or to be feared.

It shifts the conversation from: “What’s wrong with them?”

To:
“What can we change to make things more inclusive?”

That shift matters.

Designed for Busy Schools

I know how stretched schools are. That’s why this resource is:

  • Free
  • Ready to use
  • Age-banded
  • Clear and accessible
