School Assemblies with Aideen Blackborough
Inspiring Understanding, Inclusion and Empathy
Welcome to my Disability Awareness School Assemblies! I’m Aideen Blackborough—a disabled trainer, speaker, and passionate advocate for inclusion. Living with Cerebral Palsy, I use my lived experience to educate and inspire students of all ages to better understand disability, challenge stereotypes, and embrace diversity.
Whether you’re a primary or secondary school, my assemblies are designed to be engaging, age-appropriate, and thought-provoking. They empower students to see ability beyond disability and to become more inclusive members of their school and wider community.
What I offer
- Lively, interactive assemblies tailored for both primary and secondary schools
- Real-live insights into living with a disability
- Open Q&A sessions to encourage curiosity and respectful dialogue
- Curriculum aligned content which supports PSHE and inclusion goals
- Inspiration and empowerment for both students and staff
Why Disability Awareness Matters
Disability is a natural part of human diversity. Yet, many young people grow up without meaningful exposure to it. My disability awareness assemblies help students:
- Understand what disability really means
- Break down myths and misconceptions
- Learn how to be allies and inclusive peers
- Build empathy and confidence in interacting with disabled people
What Schools Say About Me
Over the years, I’ve delivered these assemblies to schools across the UK and have now had the privilege of speaking to over 5000 pupils! The feedback from teachers, staff and pupils has been overwhelming positive. The sessions are consistently described as inspiring, eye-opening and perfectly pitched for pupils.
Here’s what some schools have said:
“Thank-you so much for coming to our school and sharing your story and experience. Children and staff found it really informative and I’ve had nothing but positive comments. You are always welcome back.”
Galton Valley Primary School, Deputy Head
“It was fantastic having Aideen in to talk to our pupils about Cerebral Palsy and living with a disability. . . Since Aideen’s sessions, we have also noticed a big reduction in discriminatory language towards those with disabilities. We would love to welcome Aideen back to our school to work with our pupils again.”
