Creating meaningful conversations around disability and inclusion is at the heart of everything I do. Through my school assemblies , I aim to spark empathy, challenge stereotypes and help pupils see the value in everyone. It’s been incredibly rewarding to hear how these sessions have made a lasting impact and I’m proud to share some of the kind words and reflections from the schools I’ve worked with.
“The assembly was extremely beneficial for our whole school community. As well as increasing awareness and understanding of Cerebral Palsy, our pupils were truly inspired by Aideen. She had over 500 children’s full attention for 45 minutes – you could hear a pin drop! The feedback from staff and pupils has been extremely positive.”
– Dorridge Primary School, Inclusion Manager
“Thank you so much for coming to our school and sharing your story and experience. Children and staff found it really informative and I’ve had nothing but positive comments. You are always welcome back.”
– Galton Valley Primary School, Deputy Head
“Thank you so much for visiting St. Mark’s recently. The children and staff really enjoyed your assembly and a lot of discussion has taken place since your visit. You certainly raised awareness of this important topic. Thank you.”
– St. Mark’s Primary School, Headteacher
“Aideen’s visit has really generated some authentic learning about disability, discrimination, the need for kindness and empathy and the importance of finding ways to include everybody. We would highly recommend her to other schools.”
– Hanover Primary School, Headteacher
“Aideen was a delight to welcome into school. The assemblies she delivered were both enlightening and entertaining. The children were encouraged to participate and she was very accommodating answering all the children’s questions. Thank-you Aideen, for taking the time to come into school and talk to all our children.”
– Barr View Primary and Nursery Academy, Office Manager
“It was fantastic having Aideen in to talk to our pupils about Cerebral Palsy and living with a disability. It really opened their eyes to the impact a physical disability can have on someone and the adaptations that are necessary to carry out what they would consider to be standard ‘day-to-day’ tasks. Aideen’s presentation was informative and relatable despite highlighting her own experience. Aideen answered all questions posed to her with honesty and humility which our pupils received well. Since Aideen’s sessions, we have also noticed a big reduction in discriminatory language towards those with disabilities. We would love to welcome Aideen back to our school to work with our pupils again. Thank you Aideen!”
– The Heights, Burnley, Personal Development Lead
“I really enjoyed Aideen’s sessions as she helped me to understand what it was like to live with a disability. I didn’t realise that people with disabilities could do everything that everyone else does, they just have to make a few changes on how they get there. I definitely see people with disabilities differently now and will change how I behave towards them.”
– The Heights, Year 9 Pupil
“Aideen’s assembly made me really sad when she was talking about how people will ignore her and talk to people around her when they want to ask her something because she has a disability. I will make more of an effort now to talk to someone if I can see their disability.”
– The Heights, Year 11 Pupil
“We were delighted to welcome Aideen into school to deliver an assembly to educate us on disability and how it can occur… We were super impressed to learn how Cerebral Palsy has impacted on Aideen and she has shown us that no matter what, you can achieve anything as long as you are determined and persevere. It was a truly inspirational assembly.”
