World Cerebral Palsy Day is celebrated on the 6th October every year and it’s a great opportunity to raise awareness of the condition and advocate for the rights of those who have CP. It’s a chance to recognise the 17 million people around the world who have Cerebral Palsy, as well as all those who offer support.
What is Cerebral Palsy?
Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a group of lifelong conditions that affect movement, posture and coordination. The condition is caused by damage to the developing brain which typically occurs just before, during or just after birth. CP affects each individual differently and whilst the condition can present physical challenges, it doesn’t define a person’s potential, creativity or spirit.
Why This Day Matters
World Cerebral Palsy Day is about ensuring that the voices of people with Cerebral Palsy are heard and that as a society, we continue to advocate for better healthcare, education and accessibility. It’s also an opportunity to highlight and celebrate the achievements of the CP community. It’s also a day to take action – to encourage governments, businesses and individuals to create more inclusive environments.
